Last Building Down at Future Site of Harrison Metrocentre Brings Demolition to 75 Percent
Horizontal Construction Scheduled to Begin January 2008
Harrison MetroCentre, one of the largest brownfield, mixed-use, redevelopment transit villages underway in New Jersey, is one step closer to becoming a reality. With the last building razed on the once highly industrialized, 35-acre site, demolition is now 75 percent complete.
This accomplishment comes on the heals of site plan approval from the township of Harrison for horizontal infrastructure – utilities and roadways – scheduled to begin January 2008.
“Receiving site plan approval and finishing demolition of every building on the site moves us further ahead in making Harrison MetroCentre the leading live, work and play mixed-use development in New Jersey,” said Kevin Tartaglione, senior vice president and COO, Advance Realty Development. “When completed, Harrison MetroCentre, which represents a public/private partnership between Advance Realty Group and the township of Harrison, will breathe new life, as well as new jobs, ratables, and infrastructure improvements, into this previously obsolete site.”
Phase I of the redevelopment will encompass 450,000 square feet of retail space including a cinema and fitness center, a 350-room hotel, as well as approximately 1,800 for sale and rental residential units. Also planned as part of this redevelopment is a new 25,000-seat stadium named Red Bull Park, the future home of the New York Red Bulls major league soccer team and a venue for concerts, outdoor festivals, and other world-class athletic and entertainment activities. Red Bull Park’s managing partner, AEG, one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment companies and promoters, is developing the stadium.
Harrison MetroCentre (www.harrisonmetrocentre.com) is also within close proximity to multiple modes of mass transit, including N.J. Transit, Amtrak and an onsite PATH station, allowing easy access to Newark Penn Station. The site is also only 15 minutes by train to Manhattan, is highly accessible by all Northern New Jersey’s major roadways, and is just minutes from Newark Liberty International Airport via rail service or car.
